Tissue Box Ukulele
Make your own ukulele with items lying around the house.
Gather your materials! You’ll need an empty tissue box for the body and a paper towel roll for the neck; a marker, scissors, and glue; elastics for the string; popsicle sticks to raise the strings; a paintbrush; plus tissue paper, paint, pompoms, and sequins for decoration.
Trace around the base of the paper towel roll on one short end of the tissue box. Cut out the hole. Remove the plastic and cut a wider hole in the body of the box if needed.
Spread glue along the outsides of the box and cover with tissue paper. Paint the paper towel roll and wait for it to dry. Then glue the roll inside the hole you cut on the top of the tissue paper box. Decorate the top of the paper towel roll.
Stretch your elastics around the box so they stretch over the hole in its body. Put two elastics on each side of the paper towel roll.
Decorate the rest of the box and the roll however you like. Paint your popsicle sticks and put them under the elastics, one on either side of the hole, on their edge so they lift up the elastic ‘strings’.
Play your ukulele and have fun!
